Piscinão de Ramos is once again supplied with water to welcome bathers

The Piscinão de Ramos has started to fill up again. After being emptied for maintenance work carried out by the City of Rio, through the Rio-Águas Foundation, one of the most beloved spots in the North Zone will once again welcome locals and tourists to cool off. The lake is expected to be at about 50% of its capacity this weekend and completely full by the 30th.

– After a brief period closed for maintenance, the Piscinão de Ramos is being refilled again so that the local public can once again enjoy the suburban beach, amid this heat wave that has been affecting the city – highlights Diego Vaz, deputy mayor of the North Zone.

Rio-Águas carried out sand disinfection services; maintenance and improvements to the treatment plant equipment; and repairs to the lake's protective blanket, in preparation for the summer. The work was supported by Comlurb and the concessionaire Águas do Rio.

– Regular maintenance of the lake is important to ensure quality entertainment for those who visit Piscinão de Ramos. The water is treated daily at the station next to Piscinão – explains the president of Fundação Rio-Águas, Wanderson Santos.

The lake is supplied with 30 million liters of water from Guanabara Bay, which is treated at the Piscinão de Ramos Water Treatment Plant. Daily treatment is carried out by the Rio-Águas Foundation, in partnership with the concessionaire Águas do Rio. Quality is constantly monitored.

Comlurb works to clean the sand and surroundings

Comlurb maintains a service station at Piscinão de Ramos, exclusively dedicated to the site. Since September 2nd, a sand cleaning and sanitation machine has been in operation, ensuring fast and effective cleaning. The machine is attached to a mini-tractor and operated manually.

The equipment is capable of removing all plastic waste, sharp shells, glass and any other debris that can be found in the sand. Wherever it goes, it levels out irregular areas, ensuring a uniform surface. It removes everything from large objects to the most difficult to capture, such as cigarette butts and oil residue.

To maintain the cleanliness of the Piscinão de Ramos, a team of 25 street cleaners is responsible for collecting household waste, removing public waste, cleaning the sandbank and sweeping, including on Sundays. There are also 240-liter containers on the sandbank, which are cleaned daily.
