City Hall announces investment in works for the North and West zones of the city

Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes announced this Sunday (October 03) the arrival of the Bairro Maravilha, Conjunto Maravilha and Luz Maravilha programs to various locations in the North and West zones. The improvements were announced to residents of Rocha, Engenho da Rainha, Vila Isabel, Campo Grande, Santíssimo, Paciência, Santa Cruz and Sepetiba, in the presence of representatives from the municipal departments of Infrastructure, Finance and Sports, as well as agencies such as Rio-Urbe, Rioluz and Comlurb.

For residents of Vila Isabel, Paes spoke of the need to restore what already exists in the city and announced improvements to the Rio de Janeiro health system. The mayor also highlighted that these improvements were only possible because of the efficient management implemented and the rebalancing of the city's finances.

 

– Little by little, the city’s maintenance will improve. Conservation, the services of the Municipal Guard, education, which is a structure that works well, but has been neglected in recent years. We need to recover what exists. The pandemic is passing, and health care will return to what it was in 2016, with family clinics operating. We have collected resources from the taxes you pay, and this year we will eliminate the waiting list for Sisreg. There are almost 450 thousand people waiting for surgery and care – Paes stressed.

 

In Rocha, the mayor also highlighted the need to restore Rio's streets through programs such as Bairro Maravilha. A project that has already yielded positive results where it has been implemented.

 

– The Maravilha neighborhood is built according to the region. In the West Zone, it’s one thing, with lots of dirt roads. Here in Rocha, in the North Zone, the urbanization is old. If the human body starts to have problems as the years go by, imagine the streets? That’s why I’m here to give authorization for it to be built.

 

The Bairro Maravilha program aims to restore areas of the city with little infrastructure. The benefited areas have paved roads and new lighting, sidewalks are rebuilt and streets receive drainage services. In total, 150 streets in the West Zone will be covered by this Sunday's announcements. More than 264 thousand m² of the neighborhoods of Sepetiba, Campo Grande, Paciência, Santa Cruz, Santíssimo and Bangu will be restored.

In the North Zone, the program will reach the neighborhoods of Vila Isabel, Rocha, Riachuelo and Jacaré. The Maravilha neighborhood includes 50 streets and more than 235 thousand m² of revitalized areas. Also in the North Zone, a square on Rua Ana Neri, with approximately 2 thousand m², will undergo requalification and will be transformed into a leisure area.

During his visits on Sunday, the mayor also announced the Conjunto Maravilha program in four housing complexes: União, Comércio, Light and Pindorama, in Engenho da Rainha. There are 92 four-story blocks on the site.

In addition, another improvement was announced: Luz Maravilha will reach all the locations visited. The program, made possible through a public-private partnership, is an initiative by the City Hall to modernize and make the city's entire public lighting system more efficient.

 

– Let’s stop talking badly about Rio. It is a very special place, yes. An incredible, wonderful city, the object of desire of the entire world. Every Brazilian wants to come to Rio. We have to change this climate that has taken hold in the city over the last four years. Let’s work little by little, making this city successful again – said Paes.
