Rio City Hall completes work on Rio dos Cachorros in Irajá

The City of Rio, through the Rio-Águas Foundation, has completed the restoration of the wall of the Rio dos Cachorros canal, in Irajá, in the North Zone. The intervention took place on the stretch of Rua André Filho and was initiated after part of the wall fell, affecting the traffic lanes of one of the accesses to Avenida Brasil.

– The project restored the riverbed, ensuring the drainage of rainwater from the region. We used the gabion method in this river, a nature-based solution that favors the appearance of plant cover on the banks – explained the president of the Rio-Águas Foundation, Wanderson Santos.

A total of 77 meters of canal were reconstructed using the gabion method, which uses stones surrounded by metal cages to rebuild the riverbed. A total of 735 square meters of paving and 94 square meters of sidewalk were also built. André Filho Street is now open to vehicle traffic. CET-Rio installed the necessary horizontal and vertical signage after the works were completed.

– We had to resolve this issue quickly. Winter allows us to calmly carry out works of this nature, when we have less rainfall than in the summer – commented the deputy mayor of the North Zone, Diego Vaz, about the interventions in the region.
