Rio City Hall carries out mobility works in Campo Grande

The mobility plan for Campo Grande, the most populous neighborhood in the country, is moving forward. On Wednesday (24/5), Mayor Eduardo Paes met with representatives of the Commercial Association to present the new stage of the works, with traffic closures for the construction of the new underpass in the West Zone neighborhood.

The interventions will bring more safety and agility to traffic in the central region of Campo Grande. In the first phase of the plan, more than R$280 million will be invested. Around three thousand direct and indirect jobs will be created.

 

– We know the economic importance of Campo Grande for the city, it is the largest neighborhood in Brazil. The Campo Grande mobility hub has existed for a long time. And how can we solve this? We can solve it, mainly, with public transportation and with this ring road project. We will have improvements in infrastructure to bring a better quality of life to the residents – said Eduardo Paes.

 

The works in Campo Grande include the construction of a tunnel under Avenida Cesário de Melo, an express connection between Estrada da Caroba and Estrada da Posse, with the construction of a 600-meter tunnel with two galleries under Morro Luiz Bom. The new routes will allow for more efficient traffic flow in the region, reducing travel time and thus facilitating circulation in the center of Campo Grande.

Urbanization works are still planned, including the implementation of roundabouts on Rua Artur Rios and Estrada da Caroba at the access to the tunnel. Two kilometers of cycle paths are also planned.

 

– We are very happy with this event because the business community accepted our invitation to understand the projects presented by the mayor. We understand that this is a project with a very large financial volume, and the West Zone and Campo Grande are very grateful – declared the president of the Commercial and Industrial Association of Campo Grande, Guilherme Eisenlohr.

 

There will also be an express connection between Estrada da Posse and Avenida Brasil, passing through areas that are still not very densely populated, thus enabling direct access. The aim is to reduce the flow of vehicles on saturated roads such as the Mendanha and Lameirão roads.

There are also plans to build a tunnel under Morro João Vicente, as well as bridges, viaducts and cycling infrastructure, with an estimated cost of around R$320 million.

 

– This is an important project not only for the Campo Grande neighborhood, but for the entire West Zone. The project is already underway. Campo Grande is the largest neighborhood in Brazil, it has grown a lot, we have traffic and mobility problems, and with this project we will greatly improve people's lives. We will bring a much better quality of life to the residents of Campo Grande and the region – said the deputy mayor of the West Zone, Diogo Borba.

 

Nova Floresta da Posse: a green lung in the heart of Campo Grande

The new Posse Forest will be built in an area of ​​950 m², equivalent to more than 130 football fields. The project includes planting 240 trees and restoring water sources, as well as protecting native fauna and flora.
