City Hall delivers revitalized areas in Bairro Maravilha in the West Zone

On Saturday (1/2), Rio City Hall handed over new works from the Bairro Maravilha program, which brings urban infrastructure to underprivileged areas of the city, including a drainage network, sewage system, drinking water system, sidewalks and paving. The first inaugurations this year took place in the Community of Rollas and Campo Verde, in Santa Cruz.

The Maravilha Neighborhood transformed 62 streets in the Rollas Community through the Rio-Águas Foundation. To combat flooding and improve the supply of basic sanitation in the region, the streets received the installation of 4,5 km of drainage network, 12,9 km of sewage network, 10.528 square meters of sidewalk and 31.916 square meters of paving. The investment was R$24,3 million, with resources from the Federal Government and the Municipality.

In Campo Verde, improvements to the Maravilha neighborhood benefited eleven streets, including Avenida João XXIII and streets Um and A. As in Rollas, a drainage system, sewage, drinking water, sidewalks and paving were installed. More than 23,5 square meters of public space were requalified. Investments totaled R$10,9 million.

With Bairro Maravilha, City Hall's investments in urbanization and infrastructure exceed R$1,2 billion

With this Saturday's deliveries, Rio's City Hall has already transformed 49 locations in the West Zone since the Bairro Maravilha program was resumed in 2021. Twelve projects are still underway in the city's most populated region, in neighborhoods such as Santíssimo, Paciência, and Sepetiba. The North Zone is also being covered. Nine locations are receiving works in places such as Acari, Bonsucesso, and Ilha do Governador. Four interventions were delivered to residents of the suburbs. Through the Infrastructure Department's urbanization program, streets, roads, and avenues receive basic sanitation, smooth asphalt, and paving, improving the quality of life of the Rio population that needs the most care. The total investment in the revitalization of areas in the West and North Zones exceeds R$1,2 billion. By January 2025, approximately 285 kilometers of urbanization had already been completed in Bairro Maravilha. Approximately 267 thousand people are being served.
