City Hall completes slope restoration in Morro da Paz, in Penha Circular

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Geo-Rio Foundation, has completed the containment works on Frei Gaspar Street, in Morro da Paz, Penha Circular. To reduce the geotechnical risks that the slope had been presenting, according to mapping carried out by the agency, the site received, among other services, the construction of an anchored curtain, grid and buttresses. The investments reached R$ 3,5 million.

– Another safe slope delivered to the population. Geo-Rio continues working throughout the city – declared the president of the Geo-Rio Foundation, Anderson Marins.

To stabilize the area and ensure the safety of the homes built along the slope, Geo-Rio technicians built a 24-square-meter anchored curtain. A 13-square-meter grid was built to support a huge rock block that was unstable and at risk of rolling. To stabilize another rock block at risk of falling, the structure received two anchored buttresses.

The slope also received concrete coating over an area of ​​250 square meters, a 130-meter impact wall and a 40-meter drainage channel. In addition to making erosion and landslides more difficult to occur during periods of heavy rain, the actions will improve the water drainage capacity.

Finally, the rock blocks positioned dangerously on the slope were dismantled.

More than 100 slope containment works delivered

Geo-Rio has been working throughout the city with more than 30 containment and drainage projects. Since the beginning of 2021, the agency has received investments of over R$150 million to work on strategic and preventive points and bring greater safety to the population of Rio. More than 100 projects have been delivered since 2021, in several regions of the city susceptible to geological and geotechnical risks.

In addition to the works, which are structural measures, studies, geotechnical investigations and maintenance of the Alerta Rio and Alarme Sonoro Systems were also carried out, which bring more resilience to the entire city.
