In addition, there's the issue of high-performance athletes. We can discover many athletes scattered throughout the city who often don't have a place to train – stated Mayor Eduardo Paes.
This initiative represents progress for the region, which will now have a large and accessible sports facility. The project will fulfill a long-standing demand from residents, is expected to be completed in 18 months, and will be carried out by the Municipal Infrastructure Department in partnership with the Municipal Sports Department.
"It's not every day that we start a new Olympic Village project. We have two more to be built in the city, but this one demonstrates this administration's attentive focus on those who need it most. This Olympic Village will represent an investment of almost R$ 30 million," said Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.
The complex was designed to cater to different sports and age groups. Among the main planned facilities are a five-a-side football pitch measuring 50 meters by 30 meters, a 250-meter running track surrounding the pitch with a 100-meter lane, and bleachers for spectators during training and competitions. The project also includes a multi-sports court and a multi-sports gymnasium with bleachers and changing rooms for men, women, and people with disabilities.
One of the highlights will be the water park, with a 25-meter semi-Olympic pool, a children's pool, and changing rooms for women, men, and people with disabilities. The structure will allow for the development of sports initiation activities, athlete training, and health programs, expanding access to swimming for the population.
– Currently, we manage 28 Olympic Villages. This will be our 29th. We serve almost 70,000 people in these facilities, and in this one alone we will serve 4,000 people from this region, with various sports. The Olympic Village project turned out exactly as the population wanted – declared the Secretary of Sports, Guilherme Schleder.
In addition to the traditional facilities, the project includes a skate park, a Senior Citizens' Fitness Center, and a children's playground. The complex will also feature a support building with an administrative sector, medical department, teachers' room, and five activity rooms, each measuring 72 square meters, intended for classes in martial arts, dance, and other sports and cultural activities.
