- The Secretariat of Integrity and Transparency launches a booklet on the LGPD for municipal employees
The booklet explains what personal data and sensitive data are. The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Integrity and Transparency (SMIT), has just launched the booklet “Protecting our data, respecting our citizens – Personal data protection for municipal public servants”, a material developed especially to guide employees on the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and its application in the day-to-day running of public administration.
Using simple, accessible language, the publication explains what personal data and sensitive data are, demonstrating why their misuse can cause serious harm to citizens, and reinforcing the responsibility of public servants to handle this information with care and security. The material also presents the Municipal Personal Data Protection Policy and the Municipal Personal Data Protection Program, pioneering initiatives that make Rio de Janeiro a benchmark in information protection and governance.
The LGPD guarantees all citizens the fundamental right to the protection of their personal data. The guide created by SMIT demonstrates how this integrated work works, carried out by the General Data Officer, the Sectoral Data Officers, and the Privacy and Personal Data Protection Committees, responsible for strengthening the culture of data protection in the municipality.
More than a technical guide, the booklet is an invitation for each civil servant to understand their importance in preserving the fundamental rights of citizens and to engage in building an increasingly ethical, safe, and responsible public administration.
The “Protecting our data, respecting our citizens” booklet is now available on the website of the Municipal Secretariat of Integrity and Transparency.
