- Rio hosts first edition of international event on the future of financial regulation
The Museum of Tomorrow will be one of the venues for the first international event on the future of financial regulation, FoT - Rio City Hall The city of Rio de Janeiro will host the first edition of Finance of Tomorrow (FoT), an international event about the current scenario and the future of financial regulation in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Museum of Tomorrow and Porto Maravalley, both in Porto Maravilha, in the city's Port Zone, will host, between August 12 and 14, the region's main regulators, representatives of fintechs, central banks and private financial and public policy leaders to discuss the transformation of the sector.
There will be at least 60 Brazilian and foreign speakers, including Otávio Damaso, Director of Regulation at the Central Bank, and João Pedro Nascimento, President of the CVM (Securities and Exchange Commission). 400 visitors are expected to participate during the three days of lectures.
Invest.Rio, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall's investment promotion and attraction agency, and the Central Bank are institutional supporters of FoT, which is also part of the G20's calendar of side events.
Rio de Janeiro has adopted measures to attract international companies, events and investments, consolidating the city's image as a reference not only in tourism, but also in business for all of Latin America.
– Having another major event like this in the city is part of the strategy we adopted back then to make Rio a showcase for Brazil again, especially in the business sector, with Porto Maravilha as one of the symbols of this transformation. Rio is an important part of Brazil’s economic strength, in addition to being the heart and gateway to the country. An example of this was the recent law we approved with incentives for the Stock Exchange to operate in the city again. I am certain that, in addition to being a tourist destination, Rio has all the conditions to attract major investors and become the best place to do business in the country – highlighted Mayor Eduardo Paes.
In addition to them, FoT also receives support from organizations and entities such as Zetta, Febraban, Deep ESG and Monashees, in addition to the British embassy in Brazil.
More than 20 sessions and panels will discuss topics such as financial inclusion, tokenization, carbon markets, artificial intelligence, investments for climate change impacts, privacy law and regulation of the financial sector, digital identity and customer data rights, combating financial crime, among other topics. More information can be found at FoT official website.
For Brazilian executive Marco Araújo, one of the directors of the British consultancy Potion Global, organizer and creator of the event in Rio, FoT is an unprecedented opportunity for debate with renowned experts so that Latin America can continue developing a transparent, fair and inclusive digital financial ecosystem.
The group was founded by Gavin Littlejohn, who is responsible for implementing open banking in the UK. He will also be speaking at FoT.
– Finance of Tomorrow is a unique moment for us to learn, exchange experiences and perspectives on financial regulation, and to advance ideas in search of solutions for the transformations we are experiencing – said Gavin Littlejohn.
The consultancy also has as a partner the Brazilian Bianca Lopes, an international investor, entrepreneur, economist and technologist. Bianca has worked for many organizations around the world, including Visa, HSBC and, most recently, the Central Bank of Brazil.
