Published on 04/09/2023 - 17:18 | UpdatedThe 4st Public Competition for Theses and Dissertations on the State of Rio de Janeiro – FRIPERJ – FAPERJ – IPP – was launched on Monday (September 9th) in the auditorium of the Instituto Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ), in the city center. The award is a collaboration between the Instituto Pereira Passos (IPP), of the City of Rio, the Forum of Rectors of Public Education Institutions of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FRIPERJ) and the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ). The competition marks its inaugural edition with the purpose of recognizing doctoral theses and master's dissertations that address various aspects of the social, urban, economic, political, cultural, environmental, historical and heritage development of the state of Rio de Janeiro.
– This is a work that we are extremely proud of, promoting reflection on our state, our territory and the city of Rio de Janeiro. This produces knowledge and many results to help us think about our policies from now on. Therefore, we have entered into this partnership with FAPERJ for the next 4 years – stated the president of the Pereira Passos Institute, Carlos Krykhtine.
The competition will select and award two doctoral theses and two master's dissertations. In addition, an honorable mention will be awarded to the best work, whether a thesis or dissertation, that deals with the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The first-place winner in the doctoral thesis category will receive a prize of R$18, along with a postdoctoral scholarship offered by FAPERJ. The second-place winner will receive R$12. In the master's dissertation category, the prizes will be R$10 and R$6, respectively.
– Universities have not lost their credibility, they have not lost their importance. Together, we believe that we are capable of bringing about a dialogue about our state and, who knows, with the results that come, of proposing a permanent line of research that considers the state of Rio de Janeiro – explained Roberto de Souza Rodrigues, rector of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) and president of FRIPERJ.
The competition will accept papers from different disciplinary areas, as long as they have been carried out in stricto sensu postgraduate programs recognized by CAPES, anywhere in Brazil. These papers must contribute to the knowledge of the social, urban, economic, political, cultural, environmental, historical and heritage reality of the state of Rio de Janeiro, as well as to the formulation of strategies and public policies related to this state.
– When the IPP presented the idea of FAPERJ supporting the award, we immediately agreed. Forming partnerships has been a very important characteristic for us. This is a way of multiplying resources and bringing calls for proposals focused on the state of Rio de Janeiro – said Jerson Lima da Silva, president of FAPERJ.
Submitted works must be in Portuguese and have been defended and deposited between January 1, 2019 and July 31, 2023. Registration and submission of works may be made until October 2. The full competition notice can be accessed this page.
