Applications are open until April 30th for 400 places in the Pact for Youth project - Laryssa Lomenha/JUVRio Applications are open until April 30th for 400 places in the Pact for Youth project, an initiative of the Special Secretariat for Youth of Rio de Janeiro (JUVRio) in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) aimed at training young people aged 15 to 29 in community leadership. Participants will receive a participation allowance of R$ 400 to study, over six months, ways to positively impact the reality of their territories through social engagement techniques and also create their own social impact business. Young people who complete the project will be certified as Leaders for Territorial Transformation.
The initiative, internationally recognized by UNESCO, has already certified more than 2.590 residents from all regions of the city, including Centro, São Cristóvão, Madureira, Campo Grande, Rocinha, Vidigal, Complexo do Alemão, Maré, Jacarezinho, Bangu, and Santa Cruz, generating a wave of opportunities and new ideas developed from the needs of those who live the daily life of Rio de Janeiro.
– We often say that the Pact for Youth is the largest public youth policy in Latin America for many reasons, but one in particular. It provides opportunities and offers tools for young people to take action. We strongly believe in this project because it builds concrete paths to the future, connecting youth to entrepreneurship, education, and the job market. It's a journey of personal and professional development, with access to teachers, psychologists, social workers, tutors, and the entire structure of the Secretariat ready to support the growth of each young person. By stimulating committed local leadership, the Pact unites the young person's desire to participate with the learning of strategies that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives – highlighted the Secretary of Youth of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriella Rodrigues.
Selective Process
The selection process for the Youth Pact will take place in two stages. The first stage consists of online registration via the link available at: https://pref.rio/servicos/cursos/812. The second stage will be in person, where the candidate must go to one of the indicated locations to participate in the interview and answer the following question: “Why do you want to be part of the Youth Pact?”
The Pact for Youth
The Youth Pact is a project structured in three distinct stages. In the first phase, training workshops and actions aimed at disseminating knowledge are promoted. Next, young people go into the field to analyze the problems they face where they live, through territorial research. Finally, students develop a final project for their first social business to generate income after the project, with ideas to solve problems in the places where they live, based on the techniques learned in the training tracks of Culture, Sport and Sustainability.
Throughout the project, young people will also have the opportunity to participate in events, cultural outings, workshops, lectures, book launches, and other opportunities that, through partnerships and initiatives of JUVRio, guarantee a richer experience and broaden the opportunities, repertoire, knowledge, and development of each young participant.
Over 118 young people have been reached through the Pact for Youth.
Since its creation in July 2022, the program has already promoted 2.182 territorial actions that have reached 118 young people with practices aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda. International recognition also accompanies the growth of the initiative, which has already been highlighted at the UN Forum in New York; at the Y20, a group of young people from the G20 countries; at the G20 conference in Indonesia; and at the Global Opportunity Youth Network (GOYN), a global network of partners and young leaders led by the Aspen Institute, in India, in 2024.
