Registration is now open for 600 spots in the Pacto pela Juventude project, a program by the Special Secretariat for Youth in Rio de Janeiro (JUVRio) in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), focused on training young people aged 15 to 29 in social participation and community leadership. The project offers financial assistance of R$400 so that, for six months, residents of the regions covered can receive guidance on how to positively impact their realities and multiply knowledge. To participate, simply fill out the form available at social media from the Secretariat until March 10th.

Since it was launched in July 2022, the Pact for Youth has already carried out more than 500 territorial actions and benefited more than 1.240 young people from Rio de Janeiro from favelas such as Rocinha, Cidade de Deus, Vidigal, Complexo do Alemão, Maré, Jacarezinho, Nova Holanda, São Carlos, Caju, Providência and many others.

The Pact for Youth is a project developed in three different stages. The first stage involves training workshops and knowledge-sharing activities. Then, the young people go into the field to learn about the reality of the favelas where they live for territorial research. Finally, the final project and work plan are developed by the students who think of practical strategies to alleviate or solve common problems or social issues related to the proposed training paths.

The selection will prioritize young people from the project's opportunity bank who meet at least one of the following criteria: those who do not work or study; black; members of families with a monthly income of up to three minimum wages; members of families that benefit from income transfer programs; registered in the Single Registry (CadÚnico); mothers; former socio-educational system; and former prison inmates. After being selected for the project, the young people will be included in the following knowledge paths of the Pact for Youth: Culture, Sports and Sustainability.

More than 20 thousand young people were impacted by the Pact for Youth

A project internationally recognized by the UN Forum in New York and Y20, a G20 youth group, the Youth Pact has impacted more than 20 young people throughout the city, bringing knowledge and sustainable practices aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda to young people and their points of contact, such as family, neighbors and friends. Through efficient strategies for multiplying knowledge and participation, in addition to those who graduated from the project, thousands of other young people are reached who come to understand the importance of exercising collaboration.

The Youth Pact is part of a social reality of great challenges, according to data from diagnoses carried out by research institutes and public agencies. According to the most recent Data Bulletin from JUVRio, Rio de Janeiro's youth comprises more than 1,5 million young people, 32% of whom are people who neither work nor study. The lack of access to opportunities for individual development puts the city's full development at risk.
