Joint action by Rio's Environment departments closes landfill in the West Zone

The illegal landfill was dumped on a plot of land in Recreio - Rio City Hall In a joint operation this Wednesday (12/05), the Environmental Secretariats of the city and state of Rio and the State Environmental Institute (INEA) closed a landfill on Estrada Vereador Alceu de Carvalho, next to the Canal do Rio Morto, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the West Zone. In the operation, which closed the sixth landfill in the period of one week, trucks were seized after being caught illegally dumping construction waste.
– The joint action of the departments is important to emphasize that we will not tolerate environmental crimes in the City of Rio. The environment will be defended in all areas – stated the City’s Environment Secretary, Eduardo Cavaliere.
In addition to three trucks, a hydraulic excavator, which was spreading waste towards the flooded vegetation in order to expand the area of the land, was also seized. At the time of the inspection, there was no one on site.
– Our intelligence and inspection work are essential to curb environmental crimes. We will continue to act aggressively throughout the state – explains the Secretary of State for the Environment, Thiago Pampolha.
