City Hall presents the Requalification Plan for the Fazenda Viegas Urban Park, in Senador Camará

Mayor Eduardo Paes and the Secretary of Environment and Climate, Tainá de Paula, launched, this Friday (09/06), the Requalification Plan for the Viegas Farm Urban Park. The site, built in the mid-XNUMXth century and which became a landmark in the urban structuring processes of the West Zone, was undergoing a process of deterioration and lack of maintenance, which led to significant losses to Rio's heritage.

In the first phase, the plan includes the implementation of the Guardians of the Forests, Hortas Cariocas and Reforestation programs, in addition to the requalification of the park's administrative building. In the second phase, a project will be drawn up for the recovery, restoration and urbanization of the site, which will include the renovation and revitalization of the historic nursery and the mansion, in addition to the return of guided tours.

For the mayor, the area now needs to be occupied by the population.

 

– We already have a park in place. We will identify projects from the departments that can be carried out here to occupy the space. This is essential. And then we will have time to seek budget, carry out expansion work, and see how we can move forward, respecting the area. We have a park full of history, of ancestry – said Eduardo Paes.

 

The launch of the requalification plan included discussion groups on environmental awareness and reforestation, a poetry recital and musical performances. Alongside the ceremony, environmental education and seedling distribution stands were also set up at the venue, as well as a crafts exhibition.

 

– The Fazenda Viegas Urban Park is a Historical Heritage Site of Rio de Janeiro that has been neglected for decades. The recovery plan will include renovations that will allow the cultural and socio-environmental occupation of this space again – highlighted Tainá de Paula and added – We hope to count on possible support from the Federal Government for the execution of the works to revitalize the mansion and urbanize the unexplored region of the park.

 

About the Park

The Fazenda Viegas Urban Park is a Historic Heritage Site of Rio de Janeiro, listed by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage (INEPAC) and the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN). It has been deteriorating and needs renovations to allow for cultural and socio-environmental use of the park. For years, several groups from the West Zone have organized activities independently, generating development in the area and in the surrounding areas.
