Action to demolish buildings in Transolímpica - Disclosure The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of the Environment, demolished ten irregular buildings on the morning of Thursday (27/01), built in an area expropriated by the city over the TransOlímpica expressway tunnel, in Taquara. The operation was carried out with the participation of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Military Environmental Police, the Environmental Protection Department and the Jacarepaguá Subprefecture.
Two tractors were used in the operation, as there were foundations and houses built, with up to two floors and structure for other floors. The houses were being built in the buffer zone of the Pedra Branca State Park.
Seven foundations and three houses were demolished. Three people were taken to the Environmental Protection Police Station to provide statements.
– Rio de Janeiro City Hall is working hard to stop these irregular constructions. The defense of environmental protection areas in the city is a priority for the Environment Department. Irregular constructions will not remain standing – emphasizes the Environment Secretary, Eduardo Cavaliere.
Light was called to shut down the electricity grid, as some buildings already had energy meters and other installations for energy theft.
According to the Police, groups of criminals control land grabbing in the region, demarcate lots with pickets and wire, and wait for the right moment to begin invasion and construction.
The deputy mayor of Jacarepaguá, Talita Galhardo, accompanied the demolition and informed that the inspection will continue:
– As soon as we received complaints, we forwarded them to the investigating authorities so that those responsible could be identified and administrative proceedings could be opened. The notifications were made this month and a task force was set up with more than 60 agents and machinery to demolish the structures still under construction.
