Department of the Environment fines gas station with fake license in Manguinhos

The municipal environmental license, dated March 6, 2017, exists. But a closer look reveals that the supposed official document is completely false – the name of the environmental authority who held the position on that date is incorrect. The crime of forgery was uncovered this Tuesday (27/04) by the Rio de Janeiro State Department of the Environment, which fined a gas station at 365 Avenida dos Democráticos, in Manguinhos, in the North Zone, R$686.

 

The establishment currently has a valid state license since 2019, but the fine is retroactive for the time it operated without authorization. The action was supported by the Environmental Protection Department, which will investigate the owners of the establishment for non-compliance with article 297 of the Penal Code, which refers to the falsification of public documents.

The message to society is becoming increasingly clear: the city of Rio has regained its environmental authority. It is the responsibility of the Environment Department to monitor non-compliance with environmental licenses and this is an example – said the Environment Secretary, Eduardo Cavaliere.

Since the beginning of Eduardo Paes' new administration, environmental licensing has been the responsibility of the Economic Development, Innovation and Simplification department. However, post-licensing oversight is the responsibility of the Environmental Defense Coordination Office of the Municipal Environment Department.
