- Secretariat for the Environment and Climate signs an unprecedented partnership with Fiocruz to train environmental agents
The course's inaugural class was held this Wednesday - Disclosure The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment and Climate (SMAC), has entered into an unprecedented partnership with Fiocruz to provide a course to qualify community environmental agents who work at the department's Environmental Education Center. The group will be trained to develop actions in areas of social vulnerability regarding climate environmental education, a topic that is currently on the rise worldwide.
The partnership to carry out the course was one of the first initiatives signed by the city's deputy mayor and current Secretary of Environment and Climate, Nilton Caldeira, on June 28.
– It is extremely important that the population understands, from an early age, the benefits of caring for the environment and the serious impacts of climate change, which directly affect the lives of all of us. This course has exactly this objective: to train agents to transmit this important warning message, in an educational way, during activities with the people of Rio.
The inaugural class was held this Wednesday (26/10) and was attended by the Undersecretary of Biodiversity and Climate, Douglas Moraes, who represented Secretary Nilton Caldeira, and highlighted the importance of the participation of civil society and the Education area in the work on the environmental agenda.
At the end of the classes, the agents will receive certification to carry out activities with the population, providing guidance on the impacts of climate change and the importance of changing habits that are harmful to the environment. In total, 89 environmental agents from the department will participate in the training.
Notions of ecology, deforestation, heat islands, global warming, atmospheric pollution, ecological sanitation, food security and environmental climate education are among the subjects that will be studied. The last topic includes concepts, characteristics, practical actions, as well as pedagogical strategies for implementing environmental and climate education in the territories. The classes will follow several formats: field classes, playful classes, dialogic classes, problem-solving classes, among others.
Currently, SMAC environmental agents carry out activities in different communities in the city, such as Complexo do Alemão, Vila Kennedy, Salgueiro and Rocinha.
The course, which is new to the city, will have a workload of 60 hours, lasting three months, and will conclude on January 30, 2023. The agents are scheduled to graduate in February.
