Mobi-Rio is finalizing the process of hiring 80 new station operators. They will be able to apply fines related to the illegal practice of fare evasion in the BRT system. The decree published this Wednesday (14/09) in the Official Gazette of the Municipality delegates to Mobi-Rio and to the Management of the Safe BRT Program, of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), the authority to inspect and apply fines to those who do not pay for their fare at stations and terminals. Currently, the default rate in the system is 20% of the daily load, while the average daily number of passengers transported is 240 thousand (paying + free).

– This is yet another initiative by Mobi-Rio to combat fare evasion. Since the beginning of the intervention, we have adopted measures to combat fare evasion, such as renovating stations with steel plates on the doors and automation, and partnering with the BRT Seguro program, run by Seop. As a result, the number of people who do not pay their fares has fallen from 35%, 40% to 20% – explained the president of MOBI-Rio, Claudia Secin.

New operators will undergo training with the BRT Seguro Program Management before beginning work to combat defaults:

– BRT Seguro, through municipal guards, has been working to combat fare evasion. This training, with the qualification of these people, will be even more important for this work, since we will have greater monitoring capacity to allow the system to operate within all the rules and legality – highlighted the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.
