Action coordinated by the South Zone Subprefecture revitalizes Largo dos Leões and streets of Botafogo.

The South Zone Subprefecture coordinated an urban revitalization action over the weekend, planting 15 trees in Largo dos Leões, in Humaitá, and on streets in Botafogo. The initiative was carried out after the agency requested the Parks and Gardens Foundation (FPJ) to implement the Planta + Rio program in the region, bringing new saplings to Largo dos Leões, where six dead trees had recently been removed from the square to allow for the renewal of the local tree cover.

In total, the initiative distributed seedlings of canafistula, paineira, aldrago, and oiti trees throughout the square and streets of Botafogo. The mobilization brought together residents and teams from various municipal agencies, integrating the planting with cleaning services, urban planning, and conservation of public space.

"This is an ongoing program that has already begun to transform several neighborhoods and will continue to expand the tree cover in our city. Our commitment is to make the South Zone greener, more organized, and more sustainable for the population," stated Pedro Angelito, sub-mayor of the South Zone.

The Planta + Rio program is part of a broad environmental recovery schedule in the South Zone, aiming to surpass the mark of 100 replanted trees in just three months. Earlier this month, the program had already covered 12 streets in the neighborhoods of Urca, Laranjeiras, Flamengo, and Catete with the planting of 14 trees, strengthening urban biodiversity.
