With Rio de Janeiro still in Carnival mode, Anitta's Bloco (street party) received the Folia Verde Seal from the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Climate (SMAC) this Saturday, February 21st. The certification celebrates the commitment of the mega-blocos (large street parties) to sustainability and responsible waste management during the festivities. The singer drew a huge crowd of revelers to Rua Primeiro de Março, in downtown Rio, wearing a costume symbolizing the energy of the orixás (deities of the Afro-Brazilian religion Candomblé).

"Today I had the pleasure of awarding the Folia Verde Seal to Anitta's bloco, which showed that it's possible to have a huge party with environmental responsibility," highlighted the Secretary of Environment and Climate, Tainá de Paula, who presented the certification to the singer.

"Carnival continues. There are still street parties, culture is pulsating, and we also have Folia Verde ensuring a more sustainable celebration, with care for public spaces and people," he added.

The Folia Verde campaign, led by SMAC, reinforces the commitment to transforming Rio's Carnival into a benchmark for sustainability. For the 2026 edition, approximately 450 professionals were mobilized, including recyclable material collectors and members of the Guardians of the Forests program, which brings together female community leaders.

The actions are carried out in street parades and also in the parades at Marquês de Sapucaí and Estrada Intendente Magalhães, focusing on reducing waste generation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In 2024, 12 tons of waste were collected; in 2025, the volume reached 40 tons.

The Folia Verde teams also work with revelers on environmental education initiatives, such as educational quizzes and the distribution of giveaways. This year, the initiative involves at least 25 carnival groups, including mega-groups, which receive the Folia Verde Seal.
