Cases of obstetric violence in Rio can be reported at the 1746 Call Center

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall has launched a reporting channel for obstetric violence, allowing victims, companions and health professionals to report it. The service operates through the 1746 Hotline, and identification is not mandatory. The records will generate data for mapping and developing public policies to curb this type of violence.
To make the notification, simply contact Central 1746 by phone, on the portal, via WhatsApp (21 3460-1746) or Facebook Messenger (Facebook.com/Central1746). The initiative is a partnership between the Special Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion (SPM-Rio) and the Secretariat of Government and Public Integrity (Segovi), with support from the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS).
To open a call, it is necessary to inform the day, time and place where the violence occurred and the identification of the professional who committed the act. The notification will be forwarded to the Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion and, if necessary, information will be provided about the support network available to support the victim.
Obstetric violence can be physical, verbal, psychological or due to negligence during pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum or abortion, carried out by health professionals. Refusing to allow a companion to be present; performing colonic lavage and determining dietary restrictions; not offering pain relief; threats, shouting, mockery, jokes, among other verbal aggressions, are some examples of obstetric violence.
