The work carried out daily in the classrooms of Rio de Janeiro's municipal school system has just received another national recognition. The Ministry of Education (MEC) released the list of schools included in the "More Teachers for Brazil" program, which rewards teachers from public schools with good performance in the Ideb (Basic Education Development Index) — including those located in more challenging socioeconomic contexts.

In Rio de Janeiro, 177 municipal schools were included in the program, benefiting 3.368 teachers. Each winning teacher will receive a Banco do Brasil card worth R$ 3, intended for the purchase of equipment such as computers, notebooks, or tablets, reinforcing support for their teaching work.

According to the municipal Secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha, the result is a cause for celebration and pride.

– This result demonstrates the strength of our education network and the talent of our teachers. It is a source of immense pride to see more than 3 teachers from Rio's municipal schools being recognized nationally. It is an important incentive for them to continue transforming the lives of our children in Rio through education – says Ferreirinha.

national recognition

The "More Teachers" Recognition program is part of the "More Teachers for Brazil" program, established by MEC Ordinance No. 698/2025. The initiative includes teachers from all over the country in three categories: Early Years of Elementary School, Later Years of Elementary School, and High School.

Appreciation of teaching

Created by Decree No. 12.358/2025, the "More Teachers for Brazil" program recognizes the central role of teachers in the learning process and in strengthening educational policies. Among its objectives are encouraging entry into public education, strengthening teacher training, and continuously valuing teaching professionals.
