Engenho de Dentro gains Nise da Silveira Municipal Park, a green area against the heat of the region

The Nise da Silveira Urban Municipal Park seen from above - Beth Santos / Rio City Hall Expanding access to a quality environment and offering thermal comfort to those living in areas considered heat islands are some of the goals of the Nise da Silveira Urban Municipal Park, which has just been created by decree in Engenho de Dentro. Construction work on the approximately 79 square meter site has already begun and, in the first phase of interventions, in addition to the installation of fencing to surround the green space, a 5,8 square meter forest dedicated to singer and composer Dona Ivone Lara will be installed, with completion scheduled for 120 days.
The urban park, located on the land of the Nise da Silveira Institute, is a project carried out by the Municipal Department of the Environment and the Parks and Gardens Foundation, with resources from compensatory measures. The project is by the Rio Heritage Institute of Humanity, linked to the Municipal Department of Urban Planning.
In the Bosque Dona Ivone Lara, 39 trees, 298,60 square meters of shrubs, 528,38 square meters of forage and 1.470,20 square meters of grassy area will be planted. The investment is R$1.225.751,45. The implementation of the rest of the park is foreseen in the Strategic Plan of the City of Rio.
Dona Ivone Lara, who died in 2018, dedicated a good part of her life to public health, having studied nursing and worked at the Engenho de Dentro Psychiatry Institute, with Dr. Nise da Silveira.
