Municipal police arrest two men for cable theft in downtown Rio.

Agents from the Municipal Force arrested two men for stealing power cables on Wednesday afternoon (June 3rd), on Avenida Presidente Vargas, near the Zumbi dos Palmares Statue, in downtown Rio.

The teams were conducting routine patrols when they noticed two individuals acting suspiciously, removing power lines from a drain located on a public road. The officers approached the suspects, identified as Cristiano Barbosa da Natividade and André Lucas e Silva Guimarães.

Various materials used in the crime were found with the two men, including three knives, pliers, a hacksaw, a glove, a homemade tool for handling cables, a flashlight, and about 30 meters of electrical wire.

According to the officers, André Lucas was also using a bike-sharing system bicycle, but he did not present an app, registration, or any proof of regular use of the equipment.

The two suspects were taken to the 6th Police Station, where they remained in custody, along with all the seized material.
