The Rio City Hall will honor journalist Susana Naspolini by naming Parque Realengo after her, which is scheduled to be opened to the public in 2024. The decree was published in this Thursday's (27/10) edition of the Official Gazette and highlights her competence in the exercise of her profession and also her connection with the people of Rio.

In the decree signed by Mayor Eduardo Paes, the Rio City Hall recalls that Susana, in addition to being charismatic, performed activities of great importance to the population, including helping the public administration to optimize the provision of public services for the benefit of the people of Rio. Born in Santa Catarina, Susana was 49 years old and died last Tuesday (October 25), a victim of cancer.

With 80.568 m², the park will be the largest leisure area in the surroundings of Realengo and is one of the goals of the Rio City Hall's Strategic Planning until 2024, in addition to being a long-standing demand of residents.

The park was developed to promote the integration of nature with the neighborhood and the entire metropolitan region, considering its proximity to the Transolímpica highway. The project uses structures inspired by international references such as Gardens By The Bay, in Singapore, considered the most visited garden in the world. In addition to adapting the Atlantic Forest to the concept of super trees, Realengo Park also presents new solutions to adapt the city to the challenges of climate change, such as heat islands and flooding.

Realengo Park will be located on the corner of General Raposo and Carlos Venceslau streets and will have five towers, measuring 17, 25 and 40 meters, partially covered in vegetation and which will spray water vapor on visitors. The project also includes elevated walkways and a water feature with aquatic gardens. Rainwater will be collected to prevent the park and its surroundings from flooding during stormy weather.

There will be seven access points and a forest with native species of the Atlantic Forest. There will also be an ecopoint for collecting and sorting solid waste. There will be a space with barbecues, and three large areas for children's entertainment, a soccer field, sports courts, a skate park and a climbing wall.

A multipurpose space will house up to 20 stores measuring 15m² each, as well as an indoor market to host fairs and events. The existing ruins on the site will be preserved to house a new cultural space.
