Zózimo Square hosts event to celebrate environment week

Event for Environment Week - Disclosure Those who visited Praça Zózimo in Leblon this Sunday (04/06) had the opportunity to participate in several educational and recreational activities, as well as games and games. The program, which is part of the celebrations for Environment Week, is an initiative of AMA Leblon, a neighborhood residents' association, and had the support of groups such as Bota pra Girar, which promoted actions to collect marine micro-waste, and the sub-prefecture of the South Zone, which mobilized other municipal agencies for the celebrations.
The event was attended by local residents and beachgoers and included the participation of teams from the Department of Animal Protection and Defense, the Parks and Gardens Foundation, Mobile Van 1746 and the sub-prefecture's traveling office, which carried out an educational action on the use of cycle paths.
– This is yet another initiative that shows the importance of government working in partnership with organized civil society. We need to stand together to defend environmental causes and our city. In addition, we planted 50 restinga seedlings, provided several services and promoted closer ties between the community and the City Hall – explains Deputy Mayor Flávio Valle.
The Parks and Gardens Foundation carried out activities to protect and preserve the environment and promoted debates on issues related to the theme. There was also planting of native restinga seedlings in the flowerbed next to the square, which was adopted and will be cared for by volunteers from AMA Leblon. One andugenia copacabanensis, a species endemic to the region and threatened with extinction, was planted there.
The Municipal Department of Animal Protection and Defense (SMPDA) brought the Adopt a Friend campaign to Leblon, and for those who have pets, there were free neutering appointments, rabies vaccinations, veterinary guidance and educational activities. The SMPDA secretary, Vinicius Cordeiro, highlighted that the department has intensified actions in the neighborhoods in partnership with community leaders.
– Through small anti-rabies vaccination actions, together with Ivisa, as well as adoption campaigns, we want to increase the dissemination of information on public policies in the city – said the secretary.
The event ended with the Municipal Guard band and a presentation by the corporation's dogs.
