City Hall opens registrations for free cultural tour on electric bus through Madureira

Registration is now open to participate in the unprecedented cultural circuit on an electric bus through Madureira. Part of the “Verão Verde” project, from the Departments of Culture and Transportation, with the support of Riotur and the subprefecture of the North Zone, the free tour will be open to the public starting this Sunday (14/11), and will then be held again every Saturday and Sunday until January, always at the following times: 10 am, 11:30 am, 14 pm, 15:30 pm and 17 pm. The tour starts and ends at the Fernando Torres Arena (Madureira Park), where there will be a market from 9 am to 18 pm. To guarantee your seat, simply access Sympla: bit.ly/buscultura. Rio is the first city in Brazil to have an electric bus in full cultural activity. The “Green Summer” will take locals and tourists to the main tourist attractions of Madureira, one of the most cultural neighborhoods in the North Zone, with a profile of innovation and creative economy. The tour will be done in an environmentally friendly way, in a vehicle that does not emit noise or pollutant gases.

The tour is 10km long, lasting approximately 60 minutes, passing through: Palace 450; Portelinha/Yabas Fair; Portela; CUFA/Mayor Negrão de Lima Viaduct; Madureira Market; Aniceto Moscoso Stadium/Madureira Sports Club and Império Serrano.

The project is part of the “Zonas de Cultura” program, an initiative by the City of Rio, through the Municipal Department of Culture, to boost creativity in various regions of the city and which will inject R$1,5 million into cultural actions in Madureira alone.

The battery can be charged in four to five hours for a range of 250 km. A company dedicated to energy solutions, Enel X Brasil was chosen after a public call and will take care of the operation, maintenance, cost and installation of the charging infrastructure, in addition to the selection and training of drivers. The company is a global leader in the advanced energy solutions and electric mobility sectors, with around 175 public and private charging points for electric vehicles worldwide.

 Why Madureira?

The birthplace of samba, Madureira is home to two of Rio's main carnival groups: Portela and Império Serrano, as well as Casa do Jongo da Serrinha. It is no coincidence that it was the first cultural neighborhood in Rio to receive the “Zonas de Cultura” program, which aims to invest resources directly in the neighborhood to develop culture and the creative economy in the region and at the same time have an impact on the territory, thus restarting the city's rebirth.

The tour will be led by the Guiadas Urbanas team, the first inbound tourism agency operating exclusively in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro and in favelas. The population will be welcomed by technicians and tour guides certified by the Ministry of Tourism.

Since 2013, the agency has been developing suburban cultural tourism with a focus on local and emotional attributes. Madureira is part of the group's portfolio, as are Penha, Marechal Hermes, Méier, Cascadura, Irajá, São Cristóvão/Benfica and Morro do Salgueiro.
