The City Hall presents the operational model of the Municipal Force to business owners and residents of Barra.

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, and the Director-General of the Elite Division of the GM-Rio – Municipal Force, Aimée de La Torre, participated this Saturday (July 4th) in a meeting with business owners, local leaders, and residents of Barra da Tijuca to present the operational methodology and management model of the Municipal Force, which will begin patrolling the region. Starting Sunday (July 5th), the teams will operate in two perimeters: Jardim Oceânico Terminal x Praça do Ó, encompassing the metro station and the BRT terminal; and Avenida Ayrton Senna x Avenida das Américas, encompassing the area around Barra Shopping, Alvorada Terminal, and Bosque da Barra.

"All of this is the result of planning, management, and a clear vision of municipal public safety that involves three pillars: the Municipal Force, CIVITAS (Central Intelligence, Surveillance, and Technology Support for Public Safety), and CompStat. The Municipal Force consists of well-trained, well-equipped, well-armed guards with body cameras, so they can act and operate in areas where robberies and thefts are concentrated. We are entering Barra da Tijuca exactly where the crime hotspots are. Since the beginning of the operation in other locations, there have been more than six thousand approaches, more than 200 arrests and detentions. All without firing a shot. Why? Because there is planning and management," highlighted the mayor of Rio.

During the meeting, the technical criteria used to define the teams' areas of operation were presented. With the expansion to Barra da Tijuca, the Municipal Force will operate in 12 city perimeters, selected based on crime mapping analysis and statistical data, allowing the force to be directed to locations and times with a high incidence of robberies and thefts, reinforcing preventive and visible policing and increasing the population's sense of security.

– Today we had another opportunity to present to civil society the operational model of the Municipal Force and show how the work will be carried out in Barra da Tijuca, which will follow the same pattern adopted in other areas served, with policing carried out by agents who work on foot, on motorcycles and in patrol cars, organized in pairs or trios and positioned at pre-defined points. All personnel are monitored in real time by our Monitoring Room, through body cameras and systems that ensure greater control and speed in responding to incidents – stated the Municipal Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale.

Since the start of operations on March 15, the Municipal Force has conducted over 6,6 interventions and made 817 arrests for crimes such as robbery, theft, and receiving stolen goods. During this period, agents also recovered 141 cell phones, 139 motorcycles, and 15 necklaces, in addition to seizing one firearm, six replica firearms, and 45 bladed weapons.
