The City of Rio has released its Operational Plan for the 29th LGBTI+ Pride Parade Rio 2024, organized by the Grupo Arco-íris de Cidadania LGBTI+, which will take place in Copacabana on Sunday (24/11). The gathering will be on Av. Atlântica, on the waterfront, near Rua Sá Ferreira (post 5), starting at 11 am.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 15:9 p.m. and will go along Av. Atlântica to Rua Rodolfo Dantas. The City Hall's activities will begin at 5:XNUMX a.m., when teams from various departments and municipal agencies will be at the “Rio Sem Preconceito” tent, set up between Sá Ferreira and Souza Lima streets, near Posto XNUMX, in Copacabana.

SEXUAL DIVERSITY COORDINATOR
The Sexual Diversity Coordination Office (CDS-Rio) and the Municipal Health Department (SMS) will occupy the “Rio Sem Preconceito” tent, between Sá Ferreira and Souza Lima streets. From 9 am to 15 pm, the public will have access to information and will be able to pre-register for projects such as Dam+ and Garupa.

DAM+ aims to help trans, transvestite and non-binary people complete elementary school and prepare them for access to public services through competitive exams, while Garupa seeks to facilitate the connection of LGBTQIA+ people to health services. Representatives from Projeto Garupa, a partnership between the SMS, CDS-Rio and the Municipal Department of Social Assistance (SMAS) will also be on site, providing information to anyone interested in participating in the project.

At the stand, citizens will find information about legislation on the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and about the services provided by the City Hall. Services will also be provided, such as receiving complaints from legal experts, registering for programs developed by the Sexual Diversity Coordination, an agency linked to the Civil House, and distributing informational materials.

As research conducted in previous editions of the event has shown, the LGBTI+ Pride Parade in Rio de Janeiro promotes contact between the general population and the diversity present in the world. Based on this data, we work to ensure that future generations grow up in a better place and develop in a more tolerant society, free from LGBTQIA+phobia.

– The main mission of CDS-Rio is to combat prejudice. I believe that this is how we will change sad statistics, such as the high rates of crimes against this population throughout the country. The Parade is an event for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity – highlighted the coordinator of CDS-Rio, Carlos Tufvesson.

MUNICIPAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Rio Municipal Health Department (SMS) will be present at the 29th LGBTI+ Pride Parade to provide guidance to the public on health and respect for diversity. The space will feature distribution of condoms and educational materials on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). In addition, professionals will offer health guidance on tobacco control, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, encouraging regular physical activity and proper nutrition for a healthier lifestyle. Vaccinations will also be available for hepatitis B, yellow fever, COVID-19, influenza, MMR and tetanus.
