The intervention, carried out by the Municipal Urbanization Company (Rio-Urbe), linked to the Infrastructure Secretariat, transformed the place into a new point of conviviality, sports practice and leisure for the population.
"Today we are delivering the brand new Cajueiro Field, along with the works we have done in the surrounding area. When there is good management, when there is a plan, there is continuity, things move forward, there are completed projects, investment, and people's lives improve," said Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.
With an investment of approximately R$ 1,9 million and an area of over 3 square meters, the project was executed with a focus on the complete requalification of the space. To this end, the teams began work by demolishing old structures, including the removal of fences, deteriorated pavements, remnants of grass, and existing kiosks, preparing the land for the implementation of new infrastructure.
From this stage, the work progressed to the complete reconstruction of the field and its surroundings. The sports area received new synthetic turf, goalposts, and a new fencing system with gates, ensuring greater quality and safety for sports practice. In addition, a drainage system with PVC pipes was implemented, essential for rainwater runoff and for preserving the field over time.
In the surrounding area, the redevelopment was extensive and designed to cater to different user profiles. New concrete sidewalks and areas with interlocking paving stones were built, improving circulation and accessibility. The space also gained benches, game tables, bicycle parking, and a more structured community area, encouraging continuous use by the community.
The project also included the creation of a new children's playground, with the installation of toys and suitable flooring, as well as the implementation of equipment from the Academia Carioca program, expanding leisure and physical activity options for residents of all ages. As part of the restructuring, 10 new kiosks were built, better organizing local commerce and contributing to income generation in the region.
Another important highlight was the complete renovation of the locker rooms, which now have spaces suitable for men, women, and people with disabilities, in addition to the restoration of the stands, general painting of the walls and facades, and structural improvements such as reinforcing the retaining wall and installing a new roof over the grandstand area.
Vicente de Carvalho, in the North Zone, will receive works from the Bairro Maravilha project.
The Municipal Infrastructure Department has also begun another important intervention as part of the "Bairro Maravilha" (Wonderful Neighborhood) program, this time on Rua Carneiro de Mendonça, in Vicente de Carvalho, in the northern part of the city. With an investment of R$ 2,5 million, the intervention will include urban infrastructure and paving services along a 537-meter stretch, totaling an area of over 6 square meters. In addition to Rua Carneiro de Mendonça, Rua Agrário de Menezes will also benefit from the improvements, directly impacting approximately 900 residents of the area, who will now have access to more adequate, safe, and durable infrastructure.
"The works begin next Monday. The community has waited a long time and has high expectations for the improvements," said the mayor.
The start of construction marks a crucial step in the transformation of both roads. Before the new pavement is applied, an efficient drainage system will be implemented to ensure the proper flow of rainwater. This type of intervention is essential to reduce flooding, prevent premature wear of the asphalt, and minimize disruption during rainy periods, bringing more safety and peace of mind to residents. In addition, the project includes water and sewage systems for the area.
Following this, the streets will be paved and the sidewalks upgraded, significantly improving conditions for pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The new infrastructure will provide greater comfort for commuters, facilitate access to essential services, and contribute to the urban enhancement of the surrounding area. The estimated completion date for the works is the first half of 2027.
Since 2021, more than 70 communities have benefited from the Bairro Maravilha program.
The main objective of the Bairro Maravilha (Wonderful Neighborhood) project is to promote urbanization and revitalize areas most in need of intervention. By investing in infrastructure and urbanization, the program not only transforms the physical space but also directly impacts the population's quality of life, promoting greater dignity, mobility, and urban integration. Resumed in 2021, the program has been transforming various locations in the city. Since then, more than 70 projects have been completed in the North and West zones.
