Rio City Hall delivers works in the Maravilha neighborhood and inaugurates sections of Morar Carioca

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Infrastructure Department, delivered two more projects from the Bairro Maravilha program in the West Zone this Saturday (26/04). The interventions brought urban infrastructure, accessibility and a better quality of life to the areas served. The inaugurations were attended by Mayor Eduardo Paes, Vice-Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere and other representatives of the municipal government.

In Santíssimo, residents of the Roma I and II complexes celebrated the improvements made to the neighborhood's streets. The services included the installation of 1,8 meters of drainage network, 3,8 meters of drinking water network, 13,6 square meters of paving and 12,1 square meters of sidewalk. Twenty-two streets were improved, including Lourival Lima, São Bento and São João streets. The total cost was R$11,4 million.

– It’s great to come back here and see people living in a better place, and seeing the trust they placed in us being reciprocated. This is the effort we make all the time – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.

Soon after, it was Sandá's turn, in Bangu. Fifteen public spaces were included in the urbanization program of the Municipal Infrastructure Department. The services included the installation of 869 meters of drainage network, 645 meters of drinking water network, 885 meters of sewage, 9,9 square meters of paving and 6 square meters of sidewalk. The investments reached R$9,5 million.

– This was a project involving the complete urbanization of fifteen streets. We are completing a cycle that began in 2022 and it makes us very proud to be back here -, highlighted Vice Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

More than 267 thousand people are being served by the urbanization program

The Bairro Maravilha program is an initiative that aims to promote improvements in the urban infrastructure of several neighborhoods in the city. The program works mainly with urbanization works, such as street paving, drainage, basic sanitation, construction of sidewalks and improvements in public lighting. More than 50 projects have been delivered throughout the city since 2021 by the City Hall. Ten are still underway in the West Zone and another five are underway in the North Zone. Investments to bring more dignity and development to these regions exceed R$1,2 billion.

The Maravilha Neighborhood improves the quality of life of its residents, increases the value of properties, reduces flooding and improves mobility and safety conditions in the neighborhoods that benefit from it. More than 267 people are being served. In addition, the Maravilha Neighborhood directly contributes to social and urban development, reducing inequalities and offering better housing conditions and well-being to the population.

– It is an important program of the City of Rio de Janeiro, which carries out the complete urbanization of public spaces, delivers a sewage system, paving and drainage in this region, which is completely revitalized -, said the municipal secretary of Infrastructure, Wanderson Santos.

Resident of Sandá, in Bangu, Andréia Gonçalves highlighted the importance of the work for the residents of the region.

– The neighborhood will grow more and more and the residents are really enjoying it.

Tapuia Street, in Ricardo de Albuquerque, gains containment

The Geo-Rio Foundation has completed a project to protect a slope on Tapuia Street in Ricardo de Albuquerque. The slope was filled with sprayed concrete over an area of ​​512 square meters and a cable-stayed curtain over an area of ​​520 square meters. Bio-vegetable blankets were installed to help absorb rainwater, and a bending wall and a low wall were also built. The site also received a staircase with a guardrail to improve access for residents and a protective wall. The total cost of the project was R$5,6 million.

New sections of the Morar Carioca urbanization works were delivered in communities in the West Zone

Also on Saturday, Deputy Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere and Municipal Housing Secretary Diego Zeidan inaugurated sections of the Morar Carioca Program in the Parque das Mangueiras Favela and Travessa Humberto Teixeira, located in the Bangu and Padre Miguel neighborhoods in the West Zone. Residents received, for the first time, a series of improvements and infrastructure services. Water supply and drainage networks, sewage systems and paving were installed. The total investment in the works is R$18 million and will serve 635 homes and 2.540 people.

– This is the first urbanization intervention that the city hall is carrying out in 77 and Parque das Mangueiras and it will bring dignity to the people who live in the community -, stated Secretary Diego Zeidan.
