The City Hall, through the Municipal Housing Department, launched this Thursday (July 31st) two more Minha Casa, Minha Vida projects in Mangueira: Mangueira IBGE, with 07 units, and Residencial Mangueira, with 176 apartments, which will benefit more than a thousand people. The Federal Government Program will serve Band 96, that is, families with a gross income of up to R$1.

"We're implementing the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program in partnership with the Federal Government, promoting infrastructure that will give people dignity, lifting them out of vulnerable situations and at-risk areas. What we're doing today is a set of interventions to improve people's lives," said Mayor Eduardo Paes.

Mangueira IBGE will have 11 blocks with four floors each, and Residencial Mangueira will have six. A total of 272 apartments will be built, including those adapted for people with disabilities (PwD), including safety bars in the bathrooms. The units will be approximately 44 m² in size and include a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a laundry area, a bathroom, and a balcony.

Residents will have access to a Senior Citizens' Academy (ATI), a multi-sport court, a gym, a playground, a mini basketball court, a barbecue area, a pet area, a community room, a library, a digital space, and 280 bike parking spaces. There will also be an access ramp and directional tactile flooring for people with disabilities, among other features. A total of 117 trees will be planted in both developments.

Investments in Residencial Mangueira and Mangueira IBGE will total approximately R$46 million. The program is expected to create approximately 100 jobs, utilizing the labor force of community residents.

Like the other Minha Casa, Minha Vida developments, the condominiums will have full infrastructure, including water and sewage systems, drainage, and electricity. The new developments will also be built on Rua Visconde de Niterói, on the former IBGE site.

"It's been many years of waiting, and I'm here to see it happen. I receive social housing benefits, but knowing that soon I won't have to move anymore is already a dream come true," said Débora Costa, a Mangueira resident who is registered with the Municipal Housing Department to receive one of the units.

In April, the City Hall resumed the Program for Faixa I in Rio de Janeiro with the launch of the Visconde II and III Residential Complexes, also in Mangueira. Construction has already begun on the 328 units, which will serve over a thousand people. Investments total R$50 million.

"With these 600 units in the four residential complexes in Mangueira, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall and the Housing Department are meeting the population's needs and contributing to reducing the city's housing deficit," emphasized the Municipal Housing Secretary. For Diego Zeidan, decent housing contributes to social development and is a way to ensure full citizenship.

Boulevard Mangueira

The community's residents also received more good news: they will gain Boulevard Mangueira, a new community area, including the revitalization of the Mestre Delegado Gastronomic Center. The Boulevard will have, among other amenities, public restrooms, parking for motorcycle taxis, and a covered patio, including a venue for the samba school's own performances. The Mestre Delegado Center will have 66 food and beverage kiosks and will be renovated in about six months.

"This project has a very important tourism aspect, as Mangueira is an icon of Rio's culture. Therefore, it's crucial to redevelop this space," the mayor emphasized.

Vendors will receive more modern, safer environments with adequate facilities for preparing food and snacks, selling beverages, and serving the public. Typically, service is provided in the afternoon and evening, which is when the kiosks in front of the Mangueira court are open.

– In addition to the Boulevard, on the facade, we will create a panel, from the block to Minha Casa Minha Vida, with celebrities from the school, in memory of the people who are part of Mangueira and the history of this community – said Vice Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

The renovation will include painting and restoring Visconde Niterói's facade, promoting belonging and cultural appreciation while maintaining the school's traditional colors in its visual identity. The investment will be R$14 million. The Mestre Delegado Gastronomic Center was inaugurated in 2013 by Mayor Eduardo Paes.
