Rio de Janeiro takes another step towards strengthening its image as a global city. Three municipal agencies – Riotur, the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development (SMDE), and the Carioca Company for Partnerships and Investments (CCPAR) – have signed an agreement to boost tourism, attract investment, and promote sustainable economic development.

One of the actions includes modernizing the Tourist Information Centers (CATs) – which offer information about Rio's tourism products and services, under the coordination of Riotur – and creating a new space in a high-traffic public area, focused on providing a more welcoming and technological experience for national and international visitors.

The three Tourist Information Centers (CATs) are located at Galeão International Airport (Terminal 2, international arrivals, daily from 6 am to 22 pm); Santos Dumont Airport (arrivals, daily from 6 am to 22 pm); and at the Novo Rio Bus Station (arrivals, daily from 8 am to 20 pm). In addition, there is also the Integrated Tourist Information Center (CIAT), at Avenida Princesa Isabel 183 – Copacabana, open daily from 9 am to 18 pm.

CCPAR, in partnership with Riotur, will also carry out the requalification and modernization of the service centers in the first half of 2026, with structural, technological and customer service improvements.

The initiative, initially lasting 24 months, marks a new phase of integration between the sectors that drive Rio's economy — tourism, business, culture, and innovation. The goal is to consolidate Rio as one of the main destinations in Latin America, attracting events, ventures, and opportunities that generate employment and income for Rio's residents.

Without involving the transfer of financial resources, the partnership will be implemented through technical cooperation, the sharing of strategic information, and the integration of teams.

The partnership also includes joint campaigns to promote Rio's image in Brazil and abroad, within the "In the Rio Mood" platform, which highlights the pillars that make the city a global icon: lifestyle, gastronomy, music, sports, nature, business, culture, and hospitality.

– The agreement unites three municipal agencies with complementary expertise, reinforcing the vision that tourism is also a driver of investment, innovation, and opportunity creation. Rio has a natural vocation for welcoming the world, and this integration expands our capacity to transform potential into concrete results – says Bernardo Fellows, president of Riotur.

According to the cooperation agreement, SMDE will be responsible for economic studies and diagnoses; CCPAR will work on the modernization and improvement of public facilities; and Riotur will coordinate marketing and destination promotion activities. The exchange of data and information will allow for more assertive planning and evidence-based public policies.

The Municipality has been working to attract more and more tourists, strengthening the international airport and consolidating a calendar of events in the city. This partnership with Riotur will allow us to better receive our national and international visitors, in addition to boosting the city's image and... soft power "A carioca outside of Rio," highlights the Secretary of Economic Development, Osmar Lima, who is also in charge of CCPAR.

With this alliance, Rio reinforces its role as an international showcase of Brazilian creativity, a city that combines tourism potential, economic dynamism, and quality of life.

Data shows that tourism in Rio is growing stronger and stronger. In the last three years alone, more than 35 million tourists visited the city, generating an economic impact of R$ 73,4 billion, according to calculations by the City Hall, through SMDE and Riotur.

All economic studies resulting from the partnership will be available on the Rio Economic Observatory and on the Riotur website, at the links observatorioeconomico.rio and riotur.rio.
