Luz Maravilha Program hits the mark of 100 LED lamps installed on the streets of Rio

Designed to modernize the city's entire public lighting system, the Luz Maravilha program has just reached the milestone of installing 100 LED lamps on Rio's streets, with the arrival of the service on the Lagoa-Barra Highway. By the end of 2022, the capital will have 450 lamps of this model, allowing for a reduction of approximately 60% in the city's electricity bill. From January to July of this year, the city saved 3.125.329 kWh, that is, a saving of almost R$2 million for the public coffers.

An initiative of the Municipal Infrastructure Department and Rioluz, Luz Maravilha is a public-private partnership that can already be seen in all regions of the city. To date, almost half of the lamps have been installed in communities. In Rocinha, for example, 70% of the lighting is already LED. Busy roads are also being included in the program, such as Lagoa-Barra and Linha Vermelha.

To implement Luz Maravilha, Rioluz established criteria that take into account the Human Development Index (HDI), the crime rate, the rate of blackouts and the regions of greatest social vulnerability.

 

– We have already installed 100 LED lamps and we will continue to reach the program's target by the end of 2022. In addition to modernization, Luz Maravilha brings safety and savings to public coffers – says Rioluz president Bruno Bonetti.

 

Infrastructure Secretary, Kátia Souza reinforces the social profile of the program:

 

– Thinking about the schedule and taking Luz Maravilha to the neediest areas is essential. We are going beyond lighting. We are providing dignity.

 

Operations Center will be expanded with the arrival of Luz Maravilha

The implementation of Luz Maravilha will also bring another great benefit to the people of Rio. The Rio Operations Center, a monitoring center for the entire city and which brings together more than 30 agencies, will be expanded by 1.400 square meters, an increase of approximately 50% compared to the total constructed area currently. The entire project will be funded 100% by the PPP, with completion scheduled for March 2022, including the construction and purchase stages, installation and configuration of new equipment, as well as usability testing and fine-tuning.

The Luz Maravilha Operational Control Center will operate at COR and will be implemented within the Smart City concept. 10 security cameras will be installed, 40% of which will have facial recognition technology; in addition to 5.000 Wi-Fi points; 4.000 solid waste sensors in manholes and 6.000 traffic signal sensors to improve traffic flow.

The program also includes the modernization of all Rioluz poles, which account for 15% of the existing poles in the city.
