New Year's Eve in Copacabana will have a structure with four medical stations

To support those who will be spending New Year's Eve on the Copacabana beachfront, the Rio Municipal Health Department will have a structure with four medical posts equipped and prepared to deal with urgent and emergency cases. The units will be open from 17:30 pm this Tuesday (31/12) until 5 am on January 1, 2025, to assist patients who present with urgent conditions, such as discomfort, trauma, cuts, etc.

 

The stations will be located on Avenida Atlântica, at the intersection of Avenida Princesa Isabel, Praça do Lido, Rua República do Peru and Rua Siqueira Campos, and will be equipped with assistance resources for events with multiple victims. Each station will have a physical area of ​​around 200 square meters, clinical beds and others with advanced support (with respirators, monitors, etc.) and hydration chairs, in addition to equipment, instruments and medications for emergency care. In total, there will be 48 beds, eight of which will be for advanced support, and 50 hydration chairs.

 

The healthcare team will include 36 doctors, 27 nurses, 36 nursing technicians, as well as operational/administrative staff, and 50 pairs of stretcher bearers to assist people who need to travel from the track/sand to the medical posts. For more serious cases that require removal to UPAs or hospitals, there will be 30 ambulances with mobile ICU support with their own teams (doctors, nurses and drivers). The UPAs and hospitals have received additional staff to meet the demand for New Year's Eve.

 

The Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance (IVISA-Rio) has implemented a new edition of the Orla Legal project, which includes information sessions on good health practices, sample collection and inspections at more than 150 establishments located along the beaches of Leme, Copacabana and Barra da Tijuca. After New Year's Eve, the actions will be extended to other beaches in Rio. On New Year's Eve, IVISA-Rio teams will be present to inspect some services, including medical posts and ambulances.

 

The SMS reinforces the warning for parents or guardians to keep an eye on their children, who should wear an identification bracelet, as well as copies of their ID and contact phone number in case they get lost. Other important recommendations for those attending the event are to moderate the consumption of alcoholic beverages and be careful with the conditions in which the food to be eaten is prepared and preserved; stay hydrated; do not stop taking any medications that are in continuous use; and do not walk barefoot.
