- Rio Rotativo Digital will modernize the city's parking fee collection system.
Rio will have a new parking fee collection system - Photo: Marco Antônio Lima / Rio City Hall The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Cavaliere, and the municipal secretary of Transportation, Jorge Arraes, presented, this Friday (April 24th), at IMPA Tech, in Porto Maravilha, the city's new parking fee collection system: Rio Rotativo Digital. The initiative modernizes the rotating parking model in the municipality and will operate entirely digitally through the Jaé app.
– The Rio Rotativo Digital system is an electronic ticketing system for public parking lots in the city. There are 37 registered parking spaces. We are going to put an end to extortion, to the real criminals, from one or more criminal organizations, who use parking lots to extort citizens. They do not represent the registered independent parking attendants who, with Rio Rotativo Digital, will receive payment from the city hall, without intermediaries, for the vehicle registration service. Everything is digital, secure, and transparent. The parking attendant will be instructed not to charge drivers. The entire process will be carried out through the app – stated Cavaliere.
With the new system, paper tickets and irregular charges for parking spaces in metered parking areas will cease to exist. The proposal guarantees more control, practicality, and transparency for drivers and for enforcement, in addition to increasing security in the billing process.
The process will be simple: when parking in a designated space, the driver accesses the Jaé app, selects the Rio Rotativo option, confirms the address automatically identified by GPS, enters the license plate, and sets the parking time. Payment is made using credits from the app's wallet, purchased via Pix or credit card.
– We are removing a paper-based system and adopting a new electronic ticketing system under our control, because the contract allows for the inclusion of another feature, which is parking. Everything will work within the app. The driver will be able to use their existing transportation credit to pay for parking or add a specific credit for this purpose – explained the Municipal Secretary of Transportation, Jorge Arraes.
The rate remains unchanged: the price will be R$ 2 for up to two hours of parking, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of six hours.
The new model also creates the role of verification agent, a professional formalized through an association of parking attendants, responsible for verifying that the fee has been duly paid. The check will be carried out through a specific, secure application capable of validating, including by photo, the regularity of the parking space occupancy.
Elenilson Brandão Vale, a 57-year-old self-employed parking attendant, celebrated the initiative.
"It's a project we have to embrace. We'll be able to work with more peace of mind and dignity," said Elenilson, who has worked as a registered parking attendant in Cinelândia for 20 years.
The Jaé system will be responsible for processing payments, validating parking time, cross-referencing vehicle license plate data, identifying irregularities, and sending notifications to users.
The schedule anticipates the start of accreditation and training for verification agents in June. Between June and July, the Municipal Transportation Department will conduct operational tests of the system. Starting in August, the system is expected to gradually begin operating for the public.
