Department of Transport bids for construction of BRT garage in Deodoro 

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Transportation, held a public session on Wednesday (January 4) at the CET-Rio auditorium in Cidade Nova to open the bids for the construction of the BRT bus depot in Deodoro. Two companies were accredited and submitted proposals: Statled Brasil and Locplan. The winning company was Statled Brasil, which offered the lowest overall price, R$1 million. Locplan, in second place, offered the total estimated value for the bid of R$19.400.000,00 million.

With the victory in the bidding process, Statled Brasil will be responsible for providing engineering services and executing the garage works within 150 days after the service order, scheduled to occur next month.

The Deodoro garage will have 31,9 m² and capacity to house up to 112 articulated buses, which will primarily serve the Transolímpica and Transbrasil corridors. The site is located on Estrada Marechal Alencastro, close to the Deodoro Radical Park.

The construction of the garage is part of the BRT requalification process, for which the system's operation bidding process is scheduled for the coming months. Among other anticipated advantages, the garages will be made available to the operator by the City Hall already adapted for the provision of the service, which will allow for greater competitiveness.

In addition to Deodoro, the BRT System will have garages in Ramos, Curicica, Cascadura and Paciência. The garage in Curicica is undergoing repairs. In Ramos, the renovations on site have already been completed. In Cascadura and Paciência, the works will be put out to tender on the 10th and 27th of this month, respectively.

Granting of operation of the BRT system

The Municipal Department of Transport has begun the public consultation process for the draft bidding notice for the concession of the operation of the BRT system transport services, currently under the responsibility of the municipal public company Mobi-Rio.

The materials for public consultation will be available on the page dedicated to the bidding process at website of the Municipal Department of Transport until January 26th. Contributions must be sent using the online form available on the same website.

The Municipal Department of Transportation will also hold a public hearing on January 11 to present and discuss the technical conditions that will govern the bidding process. The public hearing will be held on the Zoom platform, and registration must be done through the link available on the same page.

After the public hearing, the bidding notice will be released, scheduled to take place in the first half of 2023.

561 buses purchased

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall purchased 561 new buses to upgrade the BRT system. Three bids were held last year to purchase the vehicles. In the first, in April, the City Hall received proposals from suppliers for the purchase of 191 new buses, including 120 articulated buses and 71 standard buses. The second took place in May, when another 100 articulated buses were purchased. These vehicles will continue to be delivered to the City Hall, gradually, until March 2023.

The third tender was held in November, and another 270 buses were purchased. These vehicles, with a minimum capacity for 180 passengers, are expected to be delivered between November 2023 and March 2024.

The Transolímpica corridor now operates exclusively with cars from the new fleet.
