Seop demolishes 14 irregular buildings in an environmental preservation area in Rocinha

The Public Order Department (Seop) carried out the demolition of 27 irregular buildings on Wednesday (11/14), located in an Environmental Preservation Area called Portão Vermelho, in Rocinha, a location that is affected by organized crime. Of these, seven are already partially occupied, four of which are for mixed use (residential/commercial) and three for residential use. Two bathrooms and a bar were also removed.

The demolitions were carried out in addition to the vacant units, in addition to four other properties with construction still underway, without any residents being removed at the moment. All the buildings were notified in advance, but the works continued to be carried out even so.

-Today we are in Rocinha demolishing irregular buildings built in environmentally protected areas, an area that is influenced by organized armed crime and drug trafficking, and that is why we need the support of the Military Police. We regret that, even though these people have been notified, they have continued to accelerate the pace of construction. These are constructions without any kind of technical or security support. We will continue this work of the Public Order Department, always focusing on the city's orderliness, environmental preservation and areas that are influenced by organized crime, as well as the financial suffocation of these criminal groups -, highlights the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

Agents from Rioluz and the Military Police also participate in the operation.
