The illegal scrapyard operated on Avenida Brasil, near Caju - Disclosure

A joint operation with agents from the Public Order Department (SEOP) and the Civil Police dismantled, on the morning of Tuesday (February 8), an illegal scrapyard that operated on Avenida Brasil, at number 2, in Caju, in the city's Port Zone. During the operation, more than 2.520 kilos of copper without origin were seized. In addition, illegal water connections were disconnected by Cedae. Light found and removed points of electricity theft, resulting in the seizure of more than a thousand meters of wires.

– During the operation to check illegal trade, we found a large amount of burnt copper, wires from public service providers, and illegal water and electricity connections. This is a fight that the City Hall is carrying out together with the Civil Police against the receiving of these products and against damage to property. This is an important job so that we have fewer traffic lights out and internet outages. SEOP will continue to carry out these operations to combat illegal scrapyards – highlighted the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

In the area, identified after a report of invasion of private property by the Civil Police, there was also an illegal bus garage. In addition, railway line materials and a Comlurb waste bin were found, materials possibly from thefts, in addition to a large quantity of speakers deposited illegally in the location.

– We are bringing yet another benefit to the population in this illegal trade operation. We will be tireless in combating this type of illegality here in our region – highlighted Leonardo Pavão, deputy mayor of the Center.

The property was inspected by the municipal Civil Defense and closed off due to structural risk. The operation included teams from the Seop Operations Sub-Secretariat and the 17th Civil Police Precinct (São Cristóvão), and had support from the Municipal Guard and the Subprefecture of the Center.
