The Jacarepaguá subprefecture coordinated an operation that removed debris and returned the public space to the population - Press Release

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Jacarepaguá Subprefecture and the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order, carried out another urban order operation this Friday morning (July 17th). The action took place on Rua Cândido Benício, in front of the Professor Manoel José Gomes Tubino Olympic Village, in Praça Seca. Eight stalls, which served as points for drug consumption, were dismantled at the location. In addition to the structures, more than 30 sharp objects and two tools used to lift manhole covers were seized.

The intervention was prompted by complaints from residents about the accumulation of garbage on the sidewalks and the feeling of insecurity when walking through the area. In total, approximately 15 tons of debris and waste were removed by Comlurb.

The operation was supported by teams from the Municipal Guard, the Military Police, and the BRT Seguro program.

The deputy mayor of Jacarepaguá, Igor Augusto, highlighted that inspection actions in the region are frequent.

"Our goal is to return public space to the citizens. Sidewalks are for pedestrians, and urban planning is a priority to ensure safety in our neighborhoods," declared the deputy mayor.
