City Hall’s “Blitz of Life” monitors compliance with measures to combat coronavirus in Madureira

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Public Order (Seop), is carrying out the “Blitz da Vida” operation in Madureira, in the North Zone, this Monday, September 14th. With the participation of several municipal agencies, the project combines urban planning and other preventive measures to combat the Covid-09 pandemic. This is the ninth week of joint “Blitz” actions in the city, totaling 19 inspections and guidance to commercial establishments and street vendors, and 1,6 approaches to homeless people, with 785 shelters.

Last week, from September 08th to September 09th, the task force operated in the city center for the third time since the project began. As a result, 11 establishments and 09 street vendors were inspected. Among them, 40 stores were fined after health inspections for failing to comply with the municipal decree to combat the pandemic and other irregularities; and at least 72 unauthorized street vendors were instructed to leave the public space. The action also resulted in 15 stops for homeless people, with 17 shelters. In traffic, 79 vehicles were fined and 32 were towed for illegal parking. More than five tons of solid waste were also collected.

The city center was the first to receive the Blitz, from July 21 to July 07, with agents returning from August 24 to September 07. In all actions, the route prioritized points with a large movement of people, such as Central do Brasil and bus terminals, Cinelândia, Carioca, Lapa, Saara, Rua Uruguaiana and surroundings, Boulevard Olímpico, XV and Mauá squares, among others.

General assessment of the “Blitz” in the city

In eight weeks, from July 21 to September 07, the “Blitz da Vida” has already resulted in 11 inspections and guidance to commercial establishments (09) and street vendors (1.636), and 770 approaches to homeless people, with 866 shelters. The task force has recorded more than 785 traffic tickets for various irregularities, with 212 vehicles towed for illegal parking; and the removal of more than 440 tons of solid waste. The survey corresponds to the work in ten neighborhoods: Centro, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Campo Grande, Santa Cruz, Tijuca, Freguesia de Jacarepaguá, Taquara and Praça Seca.

Other numbers

Since the start of actions to combat the pandemic on March 18, SEOP has integrated more than 593 joint operations throughout the city. As of September 12, 38.759 establishments had been inspected, with 28.090 commercial establishments closed. In addition, 11.364 incidents were handled by Disk Aglomeração, which has been operating since March 31 based on calls to Central 1746.

Joint actions are planned by the Subsecretariat of Operations (Subop) of Seop and, according to operational needs, rely on personnel from the Municipal Guard, and the Parking and Towing Inspection (Cfer), Special Complementary Transportation (CETC) and Drug Prevention and Care (CPD) coordinators, linked to the department; Subsecretariat of Licensing, Inspection and Urban Control (of the Municipal Finance Department); Subsecretariat of Health Surveillance (of the Municipal Health Department); Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and Human Rights; Comlurb; Cedae; Light; Rioluz; and Military Police.
