In one month, Operation Summer fined 160 stallholders and seized hundreds of products

The Municipal Department of Public Order (SEOP) and the Municipal Guard completed a month of Operation Summer this Sunday (October 5th), initiated by the Municipal Government on September 5th. In total, more than a thousand officers are intensifying urban planning enforcement, preventive patrols, and traffic control. More than 150 fines have been issued to legal beach vendors. Specifically this weekend, the actions focused primarily on cracking down on illegal street vendors selling distilled beverages on the sand and boardwalk. More than 400 bottles were seized, many of them with the help of drone technology. Operation Summer also aims to curb illegal parking and improve traffic flow on the way to and from the beaches.

To date, SEOP teams have inspected 980 legal street vendors. This weekend alone, there were 190 inspections, resulting in 31 fines. The number of fines issued in the last 30 days alone stands at 160, targeting vendors with some type of irregularity. The crackdown on illegal street vendors selling distilled beverages resulted in the seizure of 401 bottles in the last three days alone. The Urban Control Coordination (CCU) also seized hundreds of tables, chairs, barbecue grills, coolers, carts, and other unauthorized items used by illegal street vendors or street vendors.

Teams from the Integrated Territorial Actions Coordination (CATI) have approached 8.143 homeless people along Rio's waterfront in the last 30 days, with 213 of them accepting municipal shelter. It's worth noting that all approaches are conducted with the support of social workers. Criminal records were checked on 1.490 citizens. In total, 601 sharp objects and eight imitations were seized, along with a large quantity of narcotics. Eighteen people were taken to police stations, and three remained in custody. This weekend alone, 618 approaches were made and four shelters were placed.

It's worth noting that these operations are supported by drones, and the Operations and Resilience Center has installed 21 long-range cameras that are monitoring the flow of people and supporting the work of the Security Forces during Operation Summer. "It's always good to remember that citizens can contribute to Rio City Hall's efforts by reporting incidents through Hotline 1746. Parking attendants, illegal street vendors, and clandestine warehouses, which store dozens or even hundreds of carts selling alcoholic beverages of dubious origin, are among our main targets," highlighted Public Order Secretary Marcus Belchior.

The Municipal Guard has issued more than 30 fines for various traffic violations throughout the city since September 05th. During this period, officers involved in the operation distributed 2.848 identification bracelets on beaches and in city parks. Thanks to this service, more than 20 children and adolescents were reunited with their guardians. Dozens of people were also arrested or taken to police stations for crimes such as theft, robbery, and contempt of court.

In addition to the waterfront in the South and Southwest zones, Operation Summer also takes place in Madureira Mestre Monarco Park, Deodoro Radical Park, West Park, Realengo Jornalista Susana Naspolini Park, Rita Lee Olympic Park, and Carioca Park in Pavuna; as well as the waterfront of Governador Island and Paquetá Island. The operation involves the Public Order Secretariat (SEOP), CET-Rio, the Municipal Guard, and the Municipal Transportation Secretariat.
