Ordering operation: Seop dismantles shacks and seizes furniture in Mangueira

In yet another operation to organize and clear public spaces in the Mangueira region, on the morning of Wednesday (15/1), agents from the Public Order Department (Seop) dismantled ten shacks in unsanitary conditions, where large pieces of furniture, such as sofas, armchairs and mattresses, were found and removed, in addition to two sharp objects. The operation was supported by the Subprefecture of the Center, the Military Police, Comlurb, which collected approximately eight tons of waste, and the Municipal Department of Social Assistance, which, during the operation, approached 19 homeless people and made six referrals to City Hall shelters.

– This is yet another operation to organize and clear public areas that we have carried out in the Mangueira region, just as we did last week at the UERJ junction. Despite attempts to resume irregularities, we will not stop working to ensure that the area is more orderly and safe – reinforced the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

Seop highlights that the action is essential to combat the irregular occupation of public spaces by homeless people and drug users, in addition to preventing the improper disposal of garbage.
