Operation in Copacabana discards 30 kg of food unfit for consumption.

An urban cleanup operation in Copacabana, in the South Zone, resulted in the removal of approximately one ton of debris from the sidewalks and the disposal of 30 kilos of food unfit for consumption, between Wednesday night and Thursday morning (July 2nd). The action, coordinated by the South Zone Subprefecture in conjunction with the Local Executive Management (GEL), covered main streets in the neighborhood, such as Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, Siqueira Campos, Barata Ribeiro and Francisco Sá avenues.

The food items, which were rendered unusable due to sanitary irregularities and inadequate storage, were being sold by street vendors on the public sidewalk and included eggs, bacon, cheese, ham, sausages, bread, and various sauces. Agents also seized four batteries, a gas cylinder, 35 units of beverages, 300 media items, eight chairs, and a cart abandoned on the sidewalks.

According to the Subprefecture, the focus of the inspection was to clear sidewalks to ensure pedestrian accessibility. The subprefect of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito, pointed out that the integrated actions seek to strengthen respect for the rules in public spaces.

"The City Hall will not tolerate practices that compromise public health or the disorderly use of urban space. Integrated operations will continue to be carried out permanently throughout the South Zone. Our teams are on the streets to ensure compliance with the rules, promoting a more organized and safe city for everyone," stated Pedro Angelito.

The mobilization had the support of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) — through the Coordination of Integrated Territorial Actions (CATI) —, Comlurb, IVISA-RJ and police officers from the 19th BPM (Copacabana). During the action, teams from the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance also approached 12 people in vulnerable situations who were circulating in the neighborhood. In addition to the main roads, the inspection also covered Dias da Rocha, Duvivier and Bolívar streets.
