Operation in Mangueira seized 40 kilos of copper - Rio City Hall The Department of Public Order and the Subprefecture of Greater Tijuca, together with the Military Police, carried out an inspection operation on Thursday (4/4) at a scrapyard in Mangueira and seized 40 kilos of copper. During the inspection in the area surrounding the establishment, the agents also seized 422 packets of crack cocaine and 32 packets of cocaine that were to be sold. In addition, four slot machines, a computer, a notebook, five fire extinguishers and two gas cylinders were seized by the team. Approximately 300 kilos of trash and waste were collected by Comlurb.
– This work by the Department of Public Order, together with the police, is very important. This operation is yet another example of combating the receiving of stolen wires in the city. We have clearly seen the involvement of organized crime in these activities, including scrap metal. These are essential inspections by the City Hall, with the support of the police, precisely so that we can both assist in public safety and also, increasingly, organize the city, combat the receiving of wires, which so greatly affects the lives of the population with power outages, traffic signal outages, and internet outages, and, of course, organize the city, which greatly needs the work of the department – emphasized the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.
The deputy mayor of Greater Tijuca, Felipe Quintans, added:
– We take these actions to try to suppress the purchase and receipt of illicit materials, since cables, copper cables and wiring are constantly stolen in the region. The Subprefecture is always keeping an eye on the demands of residents and is always on the streets carrying out operations organizing Greater Tijuca together with SEOP.
Agents from Comlurb, Light and Águas do Rio also participated in the operation.
