- Rio de Janeiro City Hall inaugurates the "Ambulante em Harmonia" Project in Campo Grande.
In total, 50 new street vendors received authorization (licenses) and new stalls - Press Release/SEOP The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), inaugurated this Saturday (July 11th) the "Street Vendor in Harmony" Program in Campo Grande, in the West Zone of Rio. In total, 50 new street vendors received authorization (licenses) and new stalls to operate in an orderly manner on Rua Campo Grande – between Rua Gianerini and Rua dos Franciscanos – and on Rua Barcelos Domingos – between Rua Campo Grande and Rua Butiá.
The new standardized stalls meet the parameters established in Municipal Decree No. 57.988, published in the Official Gazette. The stalls have an exhibition area measuring 1,0m x 1,10m (smaller model) and 1,0m x 1,50m (larger model). Both are covered, and the models with the larger exhibition area are intended to serve vendors who sell fruits and vegetables. The vendors were mapped on the ground by teams from the Urban Control Coordination and the Subprefecture.
– Given the need to regulate the occupation of public spaces in order to harmonize these spaces with the circulation of people, we conducted a comprehensive survey to create a better environment for the region. Whenever possible, the Public Order Department will create areas to meet the demands of street vendors throughout the city – explained the Municipal Secretary of Public Order, Marcus Belchior.
With the delivery in Campo Grande, 12 locations have now benefited from the program. The neighborhoods of Bonsucesso, Taquara, Méier (Dias da Cruz and areas adjacent to Praça Agripino Grieco), Cacuia, Vila Isabel, Catete, Taquara, and Freguesia are some of the areas of the city that have already received the project. In total, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall has granted approximately 1.100 new permits for the project and delivered approximately 1.400 new stalls to street vendors. The initiative aims to promote job creation, taking into account local potential.
– The "Street Vendor in Harmony" program provides dignity to genuine workers, with direct dialogue with those who occupy the area. With organization, everyone can work, with space for licensed street vendors and pedestrians from Campo Grande to coexist in harmony – said the sub-mayor of West Zone II, Bruno Ramos.
