Seop's operation welcomed homeless people - Rio City Hall

The Rio City Hall, through the Department of Public Order, carried out a joint operation to welcome and organize people in seven BRT stations, between the Centro Olímpico Terminal and Taquara, in addition to Nelson Cardoso Avenue, in the city's West Zone, in the early hours of Tuesday (6/12). The agents approached 30 homeless people and only three agreed to be taken in. A ton of trash was also collected, and four iron bars, two documents, a fork, ten Riocard cards, two credit cards, seven knives, five scissors, three razors, a box cutter, three pliers, a hammer, two screwdrivers, 18 lighters, a hole punch, a new machine disk, two crack pipes, two pins with alleged narcotics, a watch, a key, a cell phone and a marijuana press were seized. One person was detained and taken to the 32nd Police Precinct.

In addition to organizing public spaces, the action aims to talk to and guide people who want help to overcome drug addiction, in search of employment and a new opportunity in life.

The operation had the participation of agents from the Municipal Guard, the Coordination of Integrated Territorial Actions (CATI Seop), BRT Seguro, the Department of Social Assistance, the Municipal Institute of Health Surveillance (Ivisa), Comlurb and the Subprefecture of Jacarepaguá.

– This is yet another action that the City Hall is carrying out in conjunction with other agencies, after analyzing and verifying the complaints received by Rio de Janeiro citizens. These operations provide security to the population that uses public transportation and also lives near the stations. We will continue these actions to increase public order and prevent the illegal occupation of public spaces – stated the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

On the 30th, Seop also carried out urban planning and reception operations at the BRT stations along Avenida Brasil, in front of the communities of Parque União and Nova Holanda. Seop also relies on the help of the population to report irregularities through the Rio City Hall Call Center, 1746, so that the city can be organized.
