Municipal Guard works on city traffic - Marcos de Paula / Rio City Hall

The Special Operation of the Public Order Secretariat (SEOP) and the Rio Municipal Guard (GM-Rio) for Carnival 2022 will have 3.072 agents in Sapucaí, with 1.800 exclusively for traffic control. The GM-Rio operation begins at 18 pm on Tuesday (19/04), with preventive traffic monitoring and inspection actions. Forty agents from the Urban Control Comptroller's Office (CCU) will inspect the 80 authorized street vendors (fixed points) around the Sambadrome to ensure the area is free of illegal vendors and the proper functioning of regular vendors.

In Intendente, 264 municipal guards will be employed in the operation, 60 of which will be exclusively for monitoring traffic, operating roadblocks determined by CET-Rio, and also focusing on urban planning and the safety of partygoers.

Distribution of 10 identification bracelets for children

GM-Rio will work in partnership with the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents and the Municipal Department of Social Welfare (SMAS) in the “Folia Legal” program, which acts as a preventative measure by distributing identification bracelets to children in the area surrounding the Sambadrome. In total, ten thousand identification bracelets and another ten thousand educational fans will be made available. The action will take place from 14 pm to 21 pm, with guards from the School Patrol Group (GRE). CMDCA agents will also conduct an orientation and awareness campaign on violations of the rights of children and adolescents, such as alcohol consumption and child labor, among others.

SMAS will have 80 employees daily, both at the Sambadrome and at Intendente. It will also have a space at Rua Benedito Hipólito 163 to care for unaccompanied children or those lost by their guardians, children of street vendors who are working around the Sambadrome, or children and adolescents in situations of rights violations, such as child labor.

Raising awareness about violence against women

The Secretariat for Women's Policies and Promotion will take action to prevent and raise awareness about violence against women by advertising the website “Rio + Seguro para Mulheres” in all bathrooms at Sapucaí and Terreirão do Samba. Women simply need to point their cell phone camera at the QR Code on the pamphlets and stickers at the location and access the website where they can call security agencies directly.
