The Public Order Department (SEOP) and the Municipal Guard carried out urban planning and traffic control actions in several parts of the city during this long weekend. Since Friday (20/1), agents have issued 62 fines to beach vendors for illegally subdividing beaches, in addition to seizing hundreds of items, including chairs and umbrellas that were used to reserve sand before customers even arrived, and materials from regular street vendors, such as: drinks in glass bottles, gas cylinders, barbecues, knives, shopping carts, speakers, among others. Materials from street vendors who were operating illegally on the streets were also seized.

– We had a long weekend here in Rio de Janeiro due to the holiday on Friday, with sun, heat, beaches and a crowded city, and the Public Order Department, together with the Municipal Guard, carried out several tasks. We carried out several operations on the beaches to combat the allotment of sand, whether by kiosks or stallholders. We seized illegal umbrellas, chairs that were being placed on the sand without customers present, which is prohibited, and seized glass bottles. The Seop will continue to crack down on illegal street trading, which hinders the movement of people and formal commerce in the city – stated the Public Order Secretary, Brenno Carnevale.

Agents from the SEOP and the Municipal Guard also carried out actions to curb traffic violations. Over the weekend, 177 cars were towed and 781 fines were issued for illegal parking.

– We carried out operations to monitor illegal parking using our tow trucks. A large number of vehicles were towed, and we always emphasize the importance of observing traffic signs – highlighted Carnevale.
