Seop seizes 19 knives, three axes and a handmade sword in a scrapyard in Engenho de Dentro

The Public Order Department (Seop) carried out another inspection operation in a scrapyard this Wednesday (26/3), this time in the Engenho de Dentro neighborhood, in the North Zone of the city. During the operation, agents seized 19 knives, three axes and a handmade sword. No copper or wires without origin were found.

– This is yet another operation by the Public Order Department aimed at inspecting scrapyards, with the aim of combating the theft of cables and materials without origin, which cause serious damage to the city and the population. We will continue to firmly combat the receiving of these materials, ensuring urban order and assisting public safety – stated the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

Seop intelligence report supported the operation

An intelligence report from Seop indicated that the establishment was large and operated as a scrapyard selling copper, iron and other metallic materials, as well as trinkets.

Since 2021, SEOP has seized 137 tons of copper wires and closed more than 160 establishments for operating illegally. During the operations, 60 people were taken to the police station, 116 illegal water and electricity connections were broken, and 830 knives were seized.
